Bike to Work Day 2014

Bike to Work 2014 will be held on Friday, May 16, 2014 at the end of Missouri’s Bike to Work Week (May 12-16) and during national Bike to Work Month (May) . The St. Joseph Metropolitan Planing Organization (MPO) hosted the 6th annual Bike to Work Day with prizes, discounts at local retailers and restaurants, an employer competition and photo contest,  as well as an after work awards ceremony and celebration at Norty’s. Bike to Work Day 2014 has 5 Simple Steps:

  1. First register by emailing your Name, Employer and Shirt Size to

  2. Then pick up your Safety Shirt at City Hall RM. 202 anytime during Bike to Work Week.

  3. Email the MPO ( a bike related picture to enter the Photo Contest for a chance to win a $100 gift certificate from Horizons Cycling. and the top 3 employers with the most employees biking to work that day win gift certificates.

  4. BIKE TO WORK on Friday, May 16 and then ride to all of our participating businesses for a discount!

  5. After work come on down and celebrate the camaraderie of the day at the Norty’s for free appetizers and our awards ceremony!

2014 Bike To Work Flyer

The winner of last years photo contest was Christian Johansen with KNPN Fox 26, recieving a $100 gift card to Horizon Cycling:

Through a grant with MODOT’s Blueprint for Safety program, the MPO secured $2,000 for 200 safety shirts (see below), produced a 30 second television advertisement, and supplied incentives and other prizes and safety gear for participants  Last year there were 111 registered participants representing over 40 local employers. This was by far the best turn out for the event to date.

The employer with the most participants in 2013 was Heartland Health, followed by the City of St. Joseph in 2nd place and Boerhinger Ingelheim Vetmedica Inc., in 3rd place.
